swiggett brothers & Julian weisman

On April 24, brothers Dylan and Jack Swiggett are excited to play at the Tasting Room. Dylan (drums) has performed and recorded with jazz, rock, and funk ensembles including Intrinsic Factor, Circular Reasoning, and Roadside Attraction. Jack (piano, harpejji) has received regional and national accolades for his performances of jazz and classical piano, including two outstanding soloist awards at Essentially Ellington in New York. In recent years they have performed together at swing dance events up and down the Puget Sound.

The brothers are joined at the Tasting Room by Julian Weisman on upright bass. Julian’s intuition for music and the bass have led him to collaborate with a variety of artists and play in venues such as Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Jordan Hall (Boston), and the Appel Room (NYC) as well as festivals on both coasts. His long term recording/performing projects have been with Forager, the Star Gondola, and various solo/duo formats. Julian has performed with many of the legends of Salsa music, such as Charlie Aponte, Tony Vega, and Roberto Blades. He studied at New England Conservatory with Cecil McBee and Don Palma. Julian is also a luthier at Hammond Ashley Violins.

PAST SHOWS

MARCH 27tH GAIL PETTIS

Gail Pettis sang and performed with Clif and Nelda Swiggett for a great performance. The Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award recipient and the Seattle-Kobe Female Jazz Vocalist Competitor did not disappoint! Pettis has also served as an artist-in-residence at Amherst Jazz Festival the same year, and has performed with Gene Harris, New Manhattan Big Band, and Eddie Conard.

MARCH 12tH WITH JEFF BUSCH

Jeff’s passion for music rooted in world traditions has led him to perform jazz, blues, gospel, samba, calypso, and Cuban jazz across a wide range of ensembles. He has recorded with Grammy-winning vocalist Carlos Cascante and Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto, and has studied with master percussionists from Senegal, Venezuela, and Brazil. It was a dynamic night of global rhythm and jazz energy in an intimate tasting room setting in the heart of Pike Place Market.

JFEBRUARY 27tH WITH RICH COLE

On February 27th, Clif & Nelda, in partnership with the Wines of Washington Tasting Room, are thrilled to feature stellar saxophonist Rich Cole. A nationally acclaimed talent, Rich has worked with such jazz greats as Randy Brecker, Dave Holland, Adam Nussbaum, Julian Priester and John Fedchock, and has toured and performed with New Orleans icon Dr. John, fusion star Dan Siegel, and R&B legends Gladys Knight, The Temptations, The Spinners and The Four Tops. His own original music follows forward from the intense traditions of jazz masters such as John Coltrane and Joe Henderson.

January 30th WITH MICHAEL GLYNN

Michael brought to the Tasting Room an evening of expressive, straight-ahead jazz, blending classic standards with modern interpretations in an intimate setting at Pike Place Market. Michael began performing professionally at the age of 16.  While living in the Pacific Northwest, New Mexico, and the Bay Area he has performed with such jazz luminaries as Eric Alexander, Peter Bernstein, Seamus Blake, Conte Candoli, Eddie Daniels, Dave Grusin, Louis Hayes, Geoffrey Keezer, Don Lanphere, Mark Levine, Harold Mabern, Lewis Nash, William Parke and Bud Shank, among other notables.
